# Go Long and Short

> Trade with or against a person's predictions or an idea by buying the underlying asset positions.

Vistadex uses your USDC to **buy the underlying asset positions outright**. These are spot positions held in your wallet.

* **Long** follows the prediction's direction.
* **Short** takes the opposing direction.

For example, if a prediction market claim favors YES, Long buys YES and Short buys NO.

## Trade a person

<Steps>
  <Step title="Fund your account">
    [Sign in](/getting-started/log-in) and [deposit USDC on Solana](/getting-started/fund-account).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Long or Short">
    Open a [person's profile](https://www.vistadex.com/people), review their predictions, and select **Long** or **Short**. Enter the amount to allocate.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm your setup">
    Select **Enable delegation** under **Wallet consent** if requested. Review and confirm the direction and allocation. This allows Vistadex to place future eligible trades automatically within your limits.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The allocation applies to new trades; it does not buy the person's existing portfolio. Trades depend on available funds, market liquidity, and your settings. Actual returns can differ from the displayed [track record](/introduction/how-vistadex-works).

## Trade an idea

Open an idea on [Ideas](https://www.vistadex.com/ideas) and select **Market & rules**. Choose the underlying asset position you want to buy, review the amount and quote, and confirm.

To follow the person behind a claim instead, select **View & trade** and use the person setup above.

## Manage your trades

In [Portfolio](/portfolio/viewing-positions), **Positions** shows what you own. **Automated** lets you adjust an allocation, review trades, or pause trading for a person. Pausing stops future trades and keeps your existing positions.
